Budan's Brew Coffeebar, Penang

I was in Penang over the weekend not because I want to explore the new bridge. I did not sleep the night before because I was not feeling well. I manage to catnap during the drive to Penang. I am an awful travel companion to be honest.

This time around we manage to have some local breakfast (I will probably blog about it some time in the future 나중에). After breakfast, we were dying for coffee and it's quite hard to find a decent cup of coffee in Penang Island (honestly!). Part of the reason for this is we're from KL and we're spoil for choice here. Not being lansi ok?

We took a slow drive around Love Lane, Chulia area passing St Xavier Institution and lo and behold on our right is a signage that says Budan's Brew Coffeebar. It's a quiet lane named Lorong Argus. How cute is that name eh?

As we were feeling adventurous, we turn right into Lorong Argus and parked our car. Oh yeah, Penang no longer have those uncle riding motorcycles and ask you to pay for parking. You must remember to purchase parking tickets (scratch types - I forgot to take a pic of it sorry!) and make sure you scratch and place it on your car dashboard. If you don't, you will either kena saman (imposed a fine)  or car get towed away and they are super efficient I tell you.

Keep calm & Coffee is on. This cafe has opened for 3 months only.

The interior. Minimalist ; old meets new. You will find rattan chairs found in your grandparent's house and modern wooden chairs. Red lanterns as big as the biggest pumpkin you can find. The walls are lined with B&W photos that were taken by the owner's friend. We chat with the owner for a bit. And of course we did not reveal who we are.

My order of Piccolo Latte. I sometimes order this if I don't feel like ordering a whole cup of latte but would like a cup of coffee with milk. I normally like black coffee or cappuccino. But as I did not sleep the night before and did not want to upset my stomach. This was a good choice I must say.

Mr Hubs' order of Latte. He liked it as he finds this strong enough for him. Most cafes in Penang serves quite light coffee.

I find this place relaxing and mature. Most cafes these days are too pretentious to my liking. Too many vintage stuff and trying too hard to be outstanding. I like the colour combination of this place as it is clean and simple.

The coffee is good and we will come back the next time we're in town. Our stay was short this time around and did not manage to visit again to try their food.

P/S : All the photos were taken with my iPhone 5 and edited using PICLAB app. I did not bring my digital camera with me due to the short stay.
