Rekindle SS2

SS2 is known for a place for makan. Ask anyone and they will tell you the same thing. With the ever growing coffee culture in Malaysia especially Klang Valley, these entrepreneur prefers matured township. They convert old shops into modern cafes with quirky designs hoping to attract the younger crowds.

Let's face it, most older Malaysians would not pay RM10 for a cup of coffee.

Rekindle SS2 is one of the newer player in the coffee culture in the PJ area. Located on the same row as Savemart (probably one of the oldest surviving mart in the Klang Valley).

My order of Cappuccino. I couldn't taste my coffee after eating the cheesecake. Therefore, on my second visit, I drank the coffee first before eating the cake.
I love the cheesecake here. It's a bit expensive compared to the serving size. But I will still come back for it.

The interior of Rekindle SS2 reminds me of Christmas. Think bricks, fireplace and Santa Claus.

Brick walls.

The inner section of the cafe is their bean bag area. I prefer sitting here.

My preferred time to visit is 9 pm. It's less busy and easier to find a place to sit. Come 10 pm, you might have to wait for a bit. The air conditioning here works very well. You might want to bring a cardigan.

Coffee Stain by Joseph

This cafe has been around for a while but I've never tried it until recently. Probably because I kept seeing a lot of  3D coffee art on Instagram and that got me moving. After a hearty dinner with my family, we moved our ass over to Coffee Stain by Joseph.

This is the first thing that we saw upon entering the cafe. It's a well lit cafe with big tables but limited seats.

Piccolo Latte. So cute that I took 2 photos of it, just for show.

My order of Iced coffee cubes with milk. I don't quite like their version of this. This is because their coffee cubes are sweet. I like coffee as is (bitter). The good thing about this drink is the warm milk. It helps to melt the cubes faster.

My parents share a pot of tea. Love the CMYK colours.

Cappuccino. Too light for our taste.

This cute little 3D art was what motivated us to go in the first place. It is only available on Iced Chocolate drink. There's an additional fee on top of what you've already paid for. This is a great drink to take pictures with but not great for consumption.

Coffee Societe GARAGE 51

GARAGE 51 located in Bandar Sunway is an extension from the popular Coffee Societe in Solaris Dutamas (Publika). The place is abuzz with college students from the nearby Sunway University College and young executives type.

It was close to 10pm when we got there and was informed that they will be closing soon. Therefore, we should place our orders right then. A quick glance at the menu and we ordered a latte, mochatella and a long black.

Long Black

Mochatella - Iced coffee cubes, nutella and milk combo.

Cafe Latte.

We would've enjoyed the atmosphere more if we had more time. But we got there late, therefore we finished all 3 drinks within 15 minutes. We went back there a couple of time for drinks. And this proves to be a popular place as sometimes, free seats are hard to come by especially after dinner hours.

Brew & Bread Coffee Bar @ One City

The lower level of One City is lined with eateries of different cuisine. It was our first time there since its opening. As it was quite near home, we thought to explore the place for new coffee joints.

Bew & Bread caught our eye with its industrial steel pipes design and dark oak colour. It screams chic and cosy - "chicosy" (it's a word that I invented). The front entrance door is heavy and becareful when you walk in because it open in circular motion. I'm sorry as I was too excited and did not snap a photo of it.

View of the counter and steel pipes lining the wall.
The table.
6oz Long Black - nice crema and high acidity (very strong)

6oz Flat White - with a cute coffee art

The air conditioning is cold and it's perfect for the current weather in Malaysia. We have not been seeing any rain for a while. The barista is friendly as well.

Caffe Bene, Sunway Pyramid

Caffe Bene is a newly opened cafe in Sunway Pyramid. I was anticipating its opening because it's a South Korean chain coffee shop and I was looking forward to try its coffee. Koreans in general, takes light coffee and I wonder whether this is okay.

Comfy chairs for patrons.

Place your order at the counter and wait at your table. Once the device vibrates, collect your own drinks.

This is a wall fixture in every single Caffe Bene. I noticed this from Korean dramas.

Cafe Latte.
Both drinks are served differently. I wonder why?

The coffee is different from normal Korean coffees I would say. The beans are medium roast , compared to the normal light roast that they prefer. I think this chain will be big in no time in Malaysia.
It would be better if the outlet is bigger as there are limited seats. And I saw something from the menu that I will try the next time I'm there : Coffee Bingsu :)
If you're familiar with Korean desserts, Patbingsu is a popular one in the summer. It is shaved ice with red beans and fruits. So, I suppose Coffee Bingsu is Shaved ice in coffee. Dream combo don't you think?

I haven't blogged about any place in like forever. My apologies! I have been eating a lot, lazing around a lot, fallen ill countless time and contemplating on which place to start for Year 2014.

Enough about me. Let's move on to more important things.

I heard of this place call VCR for a good couple of months and I was stalking some nice photos taken by fellow Instagrammers for a while. The place just scream classy, classy and classy. I love odd location cafes because it's intriguing and I enjoy exploring. Thank you Waze ! (the app of course!)

Me and my friends were there twice yesterday. First in the afternoon and after dinner again.

Earlier in the afternoon.

After dinner when the lights are on.

Downstairs sitting area (afternoon).

Downstairs sitting area (night).

Barista counter.

Upstair sitting area. And some clothes on hangers. Love the designs but wasn't sure whether those are for sale or not.

Apricot Chocolate Cake drizzled with pistachio on top. Served like a brownie minus the chocolate sauce. The cake is not too sweet and moist in terms of texture.

Cafe Latte. Light but delightful.

Plum tart (love the base) and single origin Long Black

Another Cafe Latte with the pretty looking Plum Tart.

Blueberries cheese cake. They are generous with the fruits and the cheese is not too overpowering. Some people just don't like strong cheesy taste. For me, I'm game for anything dairy although I shouldn't be consuming too much.

We all enjoyed the place quite a bit. Air conditioning are stronger in certain parts of VCR. We know coz we sat in different parts of the cafe. It was nicer in the colder areas due to the current weather in Malaysia.

Will be back for more. Unfortunately they do not serve food now. According to the folks at VCR, they are working on it. Only cakes and coffees for the addicts!
