The Grind Burger Bar

New burger joint alert! This time it's hitting the older part of PJ, Section 17! You see, life is pretty unfair. When I lived there for over 20 years, there's nothing there but market and hawker food. A couple of years after I've moved to Timbuktu, cool F&B outlets start sprouting like nobody's business.

My boss who currently resides there told me that there's this new place along Kanna Curry House in Section 17 called The Grind. Not The Daily Grind in Bangsar. So don't get confused by the name.

My parents and grandma was away on Sunday and my brother proceed to call me for makan. I think he was too lazy to drive..hehe. My sister finishes work at 6pm on Sundays and her boyfriend will normally have dinner with her. But since I'll be going to PJ with Mr Hubs, all of us got into a car and try The Grind.

There are plenty of parking on weekends. What I like about this place is the decor (brick wall) and table settings. There are plenty of spaces in between tables. I dislike dining in a crowded area for dinner. Lunch is fine because everyone is rushing for time.

Bar seating arrangements in the middle of the restaurant.

See the brick wall? Don't you just love it? It reminds me of the song Wonderwall by Oasis.

This is Black Cow. What is Black Cow? Root beer float. Just don't stick your straw in once the drink comes. Sip a lot of it or else you'll be wasting half a glass of your drink. All come spewing out like a witches' brew.

+And Brown Cow is Coke Float. White Cow is Sprite Float.+

Wild Mushrooms Soup. Not so good.  With the price charged, I would expect something better. And it came out lukewarm.

Chilli Pork with Cheese. This is a nice appetiser to share

My order of Bangers & Mash Pork. This is reasonable and not too oily. But the floor staff forgot to give me my cutlery. Had to ask for it. Maybe because they are still new?

The Fiery Peppercorn Burger (Pork). My brother's order. Not much of a comment from him eventhough he's a burger lover.

The JD Burger (Pork). This is quite alright. The patty is very homemade style.

The Grind House Burger (Pork). We ordered 2 of this. One of the patty was too dry, the other was okay. The bacon was too crisp and tasted like bakwa. This is one wet burger. If you don't like mess, don't order this.

Chocolate brownies with Vanilla Ice Cream.  The brownies was not heated up or else it would've tasted better.

Overall, this place is okay. Not bad for a new place. And the plus point is that your clothes won't smell of burger when you leave. The waiters and waitresses need to be more alert and not keep apologizing for not giving people their cutleries and etc.

According to my sister who have been there before. On normal days the service is fast and attentive. Maybe they just need to learn how to cope the weekend crowds.

Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar *CLOSED DOWN*

Me and my colleague Ms WY was invited by Executive Chef Giuliano Berta, Sous Chef Andrea Genio and Miss Elaine Chee from Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar for a meal before the Chinese New Year holiday this year. And I have not written about it. (*gives self a big slap across the head*).

I need more time to compose this as I'm not very well verse with Italian cuisine. Chef G and Ms EC took the time to explained each dish and I hope that I do justice to it with this blog.

Italian breadsticks as a starter. Dip in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

I don't drink but Chef G insists on some Prosecco. It tastes good and I felt good. My face was lobster red in no time. The following photos are taken from my Instagram.

I love this bread. Not too hard and not too fluffy with pungent cheese on top.

Starter : Salmon bits with Caviar

Thin Sliced Marinated Foie Gras and Orange Flavoured Ricotta.

Quail Tajarin with Truffle. I love the texture of the pasta and the gravy. Not a heavy dish. I am still craving for this.

Roasted Rainbow Trout on Asparagus and Strawberry Salad with Red Beetroot Puree and Salmon Roe. A refreshing way to eat fish. It has an interesting combo and taste.

Zupetta di Castagne. A mixture of chestnut, strawberry, berries, ice cream and chocolate shavings.

Bitter Chocolate mousse with Pistachio. For those who love bitter chocolates will love this dessert.

Most people thinks that fine dining portion is too small and you'll need to eat another meal after that. It's not true at all. Despite the small portion, it is actually quite filling. And I remember that I had a very very late dinner on that day.

Garibaldi have different set menus every month. Check out their website here for updates.

Old School (It's Pork, It's Good), Puchong

Old School is one of the new faces of restaurant in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. I saw some photos from my friend's Instagram and it looks good. I have to try it! If you know me, I'm a sucker for food and new places to try out.

And so one of the day when I was sick and crave for tasty food, I visited Old School in Puchong. The restaurant is located at an end lot of the newer side of Bandar Puteri Puchong. The restaurant is huge with plenty of space between tables so that customers don't feel overcrowded.

The menu is in the form of an old school exercise book.

Ahh... The darab table. How I miss you. I was trained by my tuition teacher to recite the whole damn table from 1x1 to 1x12. Even up to my mid-life I remember every single one.

Mr Hubs' order of Longan with Cincau drink, refreshing. I had Coca Cola.

"Old School" Fried Rice. Tasty but oily. But then again, if the Fried Rice is not oily it doesn't taste good.

Lobak. Was a bit over fried. And dry. We did not enjoy this appetiser.

My order of "Old School" Pork Shoulder. This is a simple meal but the sauce that came with it is super awesome.

If you're looking for a simple place for good food and pork and affordable price, this is the place to visit.

Antipodean Cafe, Bangsar (Updated info : 22nd May 2014)

Antipodean Cafe in Bangsar is the place to go if you're looking for a hearty breakfast meal anytime of the day. During the weekends (when I normally sleep in), I have my breakfast during lunch hour or later in the evening. There shouldn't be a restriction as to when one have their meal.

I've made plans to go to Antipodean Cafe for a while but things keep coming up and it became a missed opportunity. And I have to plan my time properly because the place is always buzzing with eager customers.

Ms JL told me once that if I ever go there, I must ajak her and so I did. Mr Hubs had previously tried it with some business associates and love the food and coffee there.

The friendly proprietor Mr Alun showed us to our seats and proceed to explain that the menu is on the wall. Huge blackboards lined one side of the wall with food and drink items neatly written on it. We were there with a mission - THE BIG BREAKFAST and one of the floor staff came and took our order.

I love the simple decor of this place. Fresh carnations are placed on each table. It brings out the colours of the flowers as the furnitures are dark brown wood.

The cappuccino that I ordered. Pretty coffee art by the barista.

This was taken at a different time when I was there for a drink. Love me tender. Taken from my Instagram.

The famed BIG BREAKFAST. I can never finish this. The portion is HUGE.
Ms JL and Mr Hubs each order one of this and I share it with them.

My humble order of Banana Pancake. It comes with mix fruits and butterscotch. Nicely done.

Ms TEL and Mr LSY joined us later on for drinks. We did not stay long as customers kept coming and we free our tables for others. Good things are to be shared. The weather was humid and sitting outdoor was a big no-no. We left with full satisfied stomachs.

Antipodean Cafe was also shortlisted as one of the "Best Place for Coffee" for Time Out KL Food Awards 2012.
