Michelangelo's Pavilion KL

It was after office hours and we were in between events hopping with no food to eat. Location at the time was the Golden Triangle. What do one do ? We decided to eat in Pavilion KL before heading off to the last event of the night.

Michelangelo's Restaurant was the chosen one. Me and 2 of my colleagues enter the restaurant with friendly greetings from the staff. Shown to our table with menu in no time. We took a while to order because there seems to have a lot of things that we want to eat.

We attempted to order an appetiser to share but was informed by the waiter that oysters are not available that night. Later on, the table next to us was served some oysters. We felt really puzzle. But did not question him further.

They don't serve water for free. So we opt for the "atas" Acqua Panna" mineral water.

Linguini alle Vongole Veraci - Linguini with fresh clams in garlic, white wine jus with fresh chilies.
I was craving for this actually and it was really good. The only thing that would make this dish very successful is the size of the clams. It would be better if they had juicier clams.

Capellini Funghi Selvatici - Angel hair pasta aglio olio with cherry tomatoes and roasted wild mushrooms.
My colleague requested for a change from angel hair pasta to linguini. It was cooked al dente and the taste is balanced.

Aglio e Olio alla Pescatora - Linguini with tiger prawns, mussels, clams and squid, cooked with garlic, white wine and chili flakes.
Everything is fresh and the portion is just nice.

The 3 of us love the pasta here because of the texture and end result of it. Taste wise, it is balanced and none of the spice overwhelmes the other.

Crema Catalana - Creamy, smooth baked custard topped with caramelized sugar.
This looks good but we don't quite like it. It tastes like a sweet version of chawanmushi. The body is too firm and egg-y.

Musetti's Long Black to end the night.

We will be back soon to check out their pizzas. Maybe not the dessert but definitely their hot food.

Street Food : Malacca Back Alley Sihum (Jalan Bunga Raya)

Malacca is one of my favorite destination in Malaysia. Reason ? It's not that far from Klang Valley. And it's a great destination for weekend getaway and food hunting. One of the MUST visit place in Malacca is the Jalan Bunga Raya (back alley) sihum/seahum/cockles place.

If you are there on a weekend and arrive slightly late around 6-ish pm, please queue and wait for a table. This was what happened to us the last time. Don't worry, the people here are civilised. This is the case of, if you cannot wait then don't bother eating.

A beautiful picture of derelict. Old school houses above a row of shoplots with spiral staircase.

This is the back alley. And this is where business is done. Some people sits on low stools like the good old days.

Individual portions of sihum/seahum/cockles, lalas, lady's finger etc.
Super fresh.

Yao Yi Ung Choi translates to Cuttlefish and Kangkung. Super spicy chilli.

Boiled balitong. Practise your sucking skill and tongue action.

The damage.

I did not save the GPS co-ordinates for this place. But I found it on Google Maps. Just click on the link to look for the exact location. Do not worry about suffering from food poisoning because of the location of this place. I have been here many times and have brought different guests here without any casualty. Haha.

They especially love the lala here. For sihum lover like myself, I don't mind eating 3 plates on my own. Good luck and do check it out!

Standing Theory

I heard a lot of great stuff of this place in SS2 called Standing Theory. Being a fan of coffee, I have to check it out. And so, I dragged along a few friends to check it out.

We got there quite late because we had dinner and went shopping for Christmas pressies for a while. Standing Theory actually reminded me of a particular place that was long forgotten. The location itself is obscure. It is a line of shoplot that is located within one part of SS2's residential area BUT this part of SS2 is nearer to LDP and Sec 19.

The front entrance.

The highlight of all the furniture of this place.

I had a chance to snap a photo from the inside and make this photo clearer. Being the itchy backside that I am, I took a photo from the outside, separated by a glass wall. Hence, the reflections.

Gold Brew - one of their specialty. It's a highly concentrated cup of coffee that has a hint of bourbon whisky. To me, it is still very light coffee. But please do give it a try.

Flat White.

Cappuccino.

Iced Mocha.

The owners was very nice and accommodating. We arrived there late and they were willing to stay open for us before cleaning up the equipments. Being an occasional hipster myself, I quite enjoy sitting here for a cuppa.

Peranakan Place, 1 Utama Shopping Centre

We had a surprise birthday dinner for one of my good girlfriend at Peranakan Place, 1 Utama Shopping Centre recently. The weird thing is that we have passed by this restaurant numerous time and never thought of entering. And if I'm not mistaken, despite all the tenants shuffling around the mall, this is one of the only one that remain in the same lot from the beginning of time.

The Menu.

Otak-otak.

Prawn cooked with sambal petai.

Fried fish cakes.

Honey Chicken.

Kerabu Lady's Finger.

Pandan Chicken.

Taste wise it is good. We all agreed that all the food came out great and it is spicy enough. But if you're looking at portion/price, it is not justifiable. The portion is small, the price is high. Maybe because it is located inside a mall. However, if you are craving for Nyonya food and seek convenience this is the place.

Flat White Cafe, SS15 Subang +closed down+

I got to know about this place from a fellow coffee drinker who happen to pass by the SS15 area. Everyone get stuck in a jam looking for parking and the only thing you can do is stare ahead or look around. Flat White Cafe is located on the 1st Floor, few doors away from Starbucks and opposite Asia Cafe.

The counter and barista machine area. Place your order at the counter and pay for it. They will serve the coffee.

Cafe Latte.

Cappuccino.
We have not ordered the Nutella Cappuccino yet. Will come back for it next time.
Fried chicken nuggets.

Fried drummets.

We were super hungry at that time and ordered some food. This was when they first opened. Perhaps now they have more food or dessert choices. Go find out for yourself.

Restaurant Foon Lock

My family and I normally will eat in Bukit Tinggi before heading to Genting Highlands. The food is cheaper and taste much nicer than the food up there. We've tried numerous dishes and I tried locating the photos but to no avail. The photos you are about to see are the latest ones that I have.

Steamed river prawns. Super fresh and I love the taste of chinese wine on steam dishes. Loaded with julienned ginger as well. Yum yum!

Noodles with stir fried crispy pork. The pork were too dry and it takes a while to chew the damn thing. Taste wise it is okay.

Steam mihun with mashed ginger and fresh frogs. I normally love soupy dishes with loads of ginger but this dish has too much. It has the wasabi effect occasionally if one eats too fast.

Other notable dishes includes their stir fried fresh mushrooms, steamed fish, glass noodle with river prawns etc.

Restaurant Seoul Korea

We wanted to try Korean food that are not in the usual location like Mont Kiara or Ampang. We came across this highly popular Korean restaurant in Taman Danau Desa. We located the place in no time. However, we had to queue for a table at least 20-30 minutes. It was a weird experience. And I pray that the food is good.

This place serves more banchan than others.

We ordered 2 types of meat : Dae ji bulgogi (Spicy Korean Pork) and Mok Dung Sim (Pork Shoulder)

The tasty meat.

Jab Chae - fried glass noodles with vegetables.

Soon Dubu Jjigae - Tofu soup

Steamed egg. Yummy!

This is a great place for Korean food and the price is more affordable than others. (minus those fast food ones that are found in the mall). The only setback is queuing for your turn. This is their only outlet and they want to keep it that way.
The kitchen is filled with ahjummas (aunty) cooking hence the traditional taste in cooking. Most Korean restaurants in Malaysia hires foreigner to work in the kitchen.
I will only come back if I have the patient to queue for food.

Absolute Viet, SetiaWalk Puchong

We dined here some time ago but I have been really busy and have not blogged about it. Here goes :-

Love the outside moody setting. I changed it to b&w for the extra omph.

Mini teapot and teacup set.

Sour Plum Soda with Ice.

The spring roll served here is generous in portion however, I personally feel that the skin is too thick. It would be perfect if the size is right.

Lemongrass Pork Chop with Rice.
Lemongrass BBQ Chicken with Rice.
