Restaurant Wong Ah Wah, Jalan Alor

We headed straight to Jalan Alor for some food after we got back from Penang. As both of us were hungry and craving for some tasty food, we opt for W.A.W after a few F&B outlets were closed for the holiday. W.A.W the ever reliable place to go during the holiday season for they work for their money!

A word of caution for those who are afraid of creepy crawlies. There's plenty of roach friends around if you're seated outside by the open space carpark. I always believe that the dirtier the place is, the yummier the food must be!

Pork Belly Wantan Mee

 

My all time favourite...Meehoon with cuttlefish, sliced pork and baby chinese chard (bok choy)

We vacuum all the food in no time as we were both famished. The next time you're there, do also try their Salted Egg Sotong. It's yummy! Other seafood will be more pricey as this is a favourite tourist makan area.

I do not have their address. However, they are located at the end of Jalan Alor (near the carparks area). Do not attempt to go during daytime coz they are not open. Strictly for dinner til the wee hours in the morning.

CNY Greeting

 

I know it's a lil late but Gong Xi Fa Cai to all. I did not bring my laptop to Penang this holiday and therefore could not update anything. Did not realised that I could not upload photo taken with the iPad via blogger.com

Restoran Nyonya Colors, Empire Shopping Gallery

This was dated back to New Year's eve when everyone was in a frenzy of last minute shopping. Nearing to end of sales season and the kiasu people were shopping for CNY's clothes. We (me and Mr Hubs) were the same as we've just found out that there will be gift exchange amongst the party goers at our friend Ms JL's house later that night.

Besides that, our contribution for that night was ABC soup and we needed to buy the necessary ingredient. Let's save this for later in my other blog. Let's talk about our brunch at Restoran Nyonya Colors at Empire Shopping Gallery. It has been a while since we ate at any of their outlet not because we don't like their food, it's the bloody queue! I'm sure you understand that, especially the one located at 1Utama.

 

Cucur Udang - few pieces missing coz it got telan by Mr Hubs before I could snap a photo. According to him, it is not as nice as before. Standard dropped!

 

Assam Laksa. Just nice and not too spicy. 

 

Nasi Lemak Bungkus. Portion is just nice if you're planning to eat this after your main meal. Nothing to shout about. 

 

Roti Jala. I love their roti jala. They made it like mom's. I, myself don't have the patience to make this, therefore it's best to pay for it.

 

Curry Chicken that comes with the Roti Jala above. The gravy was too watery, lack of santan perhaps? But chicken is cooked just nice.

Restoran Simon's, Taipan Subang

Had a  long day with a day trip to Ipoh to run some yearly errand and cleaning of the house for the upcoming CNY. We had a late dinner tonight and had no idea on where to eat. Was driving aimlessly around Taipan, Subang and saw this restaurant. It's not new but it just never cross our mind to check it out.

From what we saw, it looks like a family-owned and operated restaurant with a very Nyonya restaurant furniture and messy interior. I assume it's because they've just moved over there from a few shoplots before.

 

Dried Chilli Sotong - A bit bland for us. It is in desperate need for some "omph" but the sotongs are fresh.

 

Assam Fish - Just nice and not spicy for those who can't take spicy food. Generous portion of vegetable to complement the fish.

 

Lotus Root Soup - Nicely boiled and it tastes like mom's soup.

 

White Rice

The owner of this restaurant looks like a doctor and I told him so. He laughed it off and played along and as me to open my mouth for throat inspection. He even offered us candy after we paid our bill. Haha what a fun & jovial guy!

We delibrately did not order any drinks to determine the level of MSG in the food. Boy oh boy! Were we surprised? We did not feel thirsty at all even after we got home, therefore they are indeed homecooked food as claimed.
