Hao Ke Japanese Sukiyaki +Closed down+

For the past 3 days I've been eating fast food for dinner. If I have another fast food meal,  I'm either gonna scream or die of a stroke I'm serious. The list of things I ate for the past few days are :

Monday night : KFC Original Dinner plate + Coke
Tuesday night : Domino's 9" Plain Cheese Pizza with 8 pcs of BBQ Chicken + Coke
Wednesday night : Half Chicken Lemon & Herb with 2 sidelines + Coke

So, I made a pact with myself that I'm gonna eat healthy today no matter what and I did. Maybe I should start having New Year's resolutions.

Anyway, Mr Hubs and I went and check out this newly opened restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong tonight. It gives out good vibes by looking at the facade. Talk is cheap, let the visuals do the talking.

I can't read chinese but from the name card that I got from the counter it says Hao Ke Japanese Sukiyaki.

A selection of condiments to be added to the egg as sauce.

Add in any of the above condiments for better taste when food is cooked and dipped onto the egg.

Selection of balls (fish & pork), mushrooms (not magic!), vegetables etc. I like the pork balls and the rest of the items are very fresh.

Sliced beef...yum-meh!

Sliced pork

Sukiyaki soup pot with vegetable.

They have a selection of ice cream to choose from. I only eat yam flavoured ice cream in any buffet if available and I don't know why.

The deal here is that it's a sit down sukiyaki buffet. Choose your meat; Pork, Beef or Combo Package. If you order the beef package, then your meat refill will be beef only. You may ask the staff to replenish whatever food items you want from the menu. Namely the balls, vegs, mushroom etc. Soft drinks (Pepsi and friends), green tea and herbal tea and ice creams are also free flow.

This place is worth checking out and they've just been opened for 3 weeks. Woohoo! I love new restaurants.

my Burger Lab

Ahh.. I love newly opened cafes and restaurants because it's so promising. myBurger Lab is newly opened this month (July 2012) in Seapark Petaling Jaya. A very unlikely location to open a burger joint, but hey! who's complaining ? I'm sure the folks of PJ would commend them for doing so.

I was there yesterday with Mr Hubs for our Brunchner (if you're wondering what's a Bruncher.. it's breakfast, lunch and dinner roll into one..). Weekends are lazy time for us both and we normally eat at weird hours of the day.

And so we were at myBurger Lab at around 5-ish pm. The place was pretty empty with 2 other tables and a very friendly greeting from the crew at myBurger Lab. It was quite shocking as we were both a little grouchy from no food the whole day and was basically famished. And the suddenly friendliness threw us off a little. But it's a good thing as both felt very welcomed.

You will notice that the walls of this little cafe is lined with writings and colours. We walked straight to a table and only then realised that we're supposed to order from the counter. Blur case maximum, kan ? Too hungry I must say. The menu is a big blackboard next to the counter. A friendly guy recommended us some burgers to try. And as I wasn't feeling adventurous yesterday, I just opt for a simple Say Cheese Burger while Mr Hubs opt for A+ Burger.

The counter where you place your orders

Great taste with sauce. Heinz mustard and ketchup

Bottomless beverage if you add RM5 for the set

Say Cheese - Charcoal Bread (healthier option?), Sharp Cheddar and Smash Beef Patty

A different view of the set

A+ Burger - Sharp Cheddar, Caramelised Onions, Shiitake & Enoki Mushroom with Beef Patty

We both agreed that the burgers are nice. However, the ventilation in the cafe is not so good. If the cooking area is walled up with glass to separate from the dining area it would be perfect. We came out of the cafe smelling of burgers and we had a long night of outing. That's a pretty big no-no for us.

Be there early as by the time we were halfway through our meal the place is packed with hungry diners. By 6pm, people are waiting for tables. It was a bit of a rush for us to finish off our burger because we don't want others to stand around our table like a hungry ghost.

The crowd here is a mixed of families and youngsters. I see a lot of college students here as well, perhaps the power of social media ? The table next to me was talking about reading about something in their Facebook page and the prices.

We'll be back to tryout the rest of the menus soon.

my ELEPHANT Thai Restaurant @ Section 17

my ELEPHANT was opened a good few years back. I still remember after good 'ol 6 to 10 Grill moved to a new lot, an economy rice business took over their lot. Shortly after that, my ELEPHANT was born. Despite the restaurant being there for so long, I've never once step in to check it out. Reason ? It's always packed and I hate waiting especially when I'm hungry. And when I'm hungry, it's hard to tell whether the food is nice or not.

When we got there tonight, the place was packed and it's hell to drive elsewhere to look for food. And the waitress told us that the wait is 5-10 minutes. That beats driving around again. So we comply and sat quietly with our iPhones.

As Mr Hubs was famished (he walked around for hours at PC Fair today), I let him order. Coz I was still full from my after work Java Chips Frap from Starbucks. This is what happens when a hungry man orders for 2 :

Tom Yam Seafood (Small). Portion is generous. Soup tastes good and not too spicy. But there's too much lemongrass in it. It overpowers most of the other dishes.

Brown Rice. I do commend them for choosing a healthier option for their customers. However, the rice dries up quickly and hardens making it hard to eat. I recommend you to eat the rice with the soup.

Phad Pak Ka Na - Thai Style Pan Fried Kailan.

Khai Jiao Ho Mok - Special Egg Omelette with Fish Otak Otak. I couldn't taste much of the egg because of the Tom Yam. So. it's not in my place to comment on this dish.

Gai Phad Med Mamuang - Pan Fried Diced Chicken with Dried Chilli and Cashew Nuts. Same as above.

What I'll do next time when I dine here is, I'll try the other dishes before attempting to drink any of the Tom Yam Soup. At this point in time, I love what they have to offer and the products used are fresh (I like that a lot!) and it shows a lot of passion from the chef and owner.

I will definitely come back again but I hope that they will be less generous with lemongrass.
