Daorae Korean Restaurant, Puchong

Mr Hubs and I used to have a tradition where we will eat at Daorae every month when our salary's out. It was not something that we set out to do but it just occurs every single month. The reason could be that we are both happy on that particular and eat a lot!

We both love Korean food and love the side dishes as well. We like the one located in Puchong but not the one at Subang. (No special reason to that, though!)

Fresh lettuce to wrap the delicious meat

Complimentary soup (beef)

Mashed potato salad

Fermented white radish

More vegetables

Mok sal - Pork neck meat

Cooked mok sal

Gal Bi - Marinated beef

Marinated squid

Cooked squid - yummy

Many people do say that they do not like to dine here, but everytime we eat there we are provided with very good service. I love how fresh the meat are and there's always a variety of side dish to try.

Allegro Cafe, Subang Jaya

I was first introduced to Allegro Cafe from a colleague of mine who was doing a special project on Italian cooking. They wax lyrical of the food and said that the food is good and authentic. Being the "makan queen" that I am, I brought my Finance Minister (Mr Hubs) along to finance the meal.

After grabbing (yes...I grabbed the name card from my colleague) the card from her, we proceed to Allegro Cafe right after work. This cafe is located in SS15, an area full of people from all walks of life (mainly student). However, Allegro Cafe is located on a quieter part of SS15. If you know where Wings Musicafe is, then just go straight (coz it's a one way street) and you will find the cafe located on the 1st Floor on your left.

Anyways, let's go straight to business. Here are the pics :

Homemade bread (complimentary). Very soft and lovely when it enters our mouth. We were too shy to ask for second helpings of it.

Ah...ze olive oil and balsamic vinegar

If I remember correctly, this dish is called Clams Aglio Olio. The spaghetti is cooked to perfection, however the clams need more washing. A few of it still contains sand? Quite irritaing if you ask me.

Lamb Shank Spaghetti. I will die for this. The meat is so tender and juicy. And yes, I ate the whole damn thing on my own.

I still eat there occasionally coz I love the Lamb Shank Spaghetti. But it is something that my health can't afford to receive too often.  Too much of a good life is never a good thing.

Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant, Sunway Pyramid

Mr Hubs new iPhone 4s died after 2 weeks of purchase therefore he sent it back to Maxis at Sunway Pyramid last week. He received an email saying that the replacement set is ready for collection tonight. Excited like a little boy, he wants to collect it after work today. I am game for it as tasty food is imminent when we go to a mall.

After waiting for centuries (typical of Maxis and any other telecommunications business here), we got served. The guy was nice and fast, I took the opportunity to brainwash him into downloading "Draw Something" (the latest craze and it's a game...) I don't know whether he was being friendly or what, but he asks some polite questions about the game. I happily share what it's all about and remind him a thousand times to download the game after work.

Then, we head off to Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant located at the Oasis Boulevard of Sunway Pyramid (near Starbucks and Wong Kok). It's the newest restaurant there and the second branch from its first one opened at Mid Valley.

The menu

The napkin with cutlery

Small seafood salad - mixed salad with smoked salmon, seared tuna, prawns, semi-dried tomatoes (awesome!), olives, grilled zucchini, orange wedge and sour cream tossed with house dressing. We both agreed that we love this salad, coz the ingredients are fresh and it screams awesomeness.

Beef Goulash - Traditional braised beef shank "Goulash" in paprika sauce with buttered spatzle. A hint of "pepper-ish" taste coz of the paprika (a wow factor!) and spatzle is something new to the both of us. We asked the waiter what is that. His only answer is cooked with butter. I googled it and it says this, "Small dumplings of a type made in southern Germany and Alsace, consisting of seasoned dough poached in boiling water."

Smoked Pork Sausages - Smoked fine sausages with potato salad and sauerkraut. I love the sausages and sauerkraut. Especially the skin of the sausages, so tangy and it has the ohhh factor. Not a fan of the potato salad coz it's too sour-ish.

We did not order any beer coz I can't drink alcohol even if my life depends on it and Mr Hubs is having a headache. So we both drank warm water and I had a Caffe Latte after meal. The next time we go, I will definitely make room for their dessert. I have my eyes on their Apple Strudel.

My Home Style, Penang

It's hard to find a nice and inexpensive Chinese restaurant to eat during the CNY celebration. They tend to jack up the price to make some fast cash (true story!). We found a great place to eat in Tanjung Bungah, Penang Island. This area is called Permai 32, some shop lots located inside a residential area.

My Home Style menu

The menu & tissue cabinet

Typical Chinese restaurant's drink counter setup

Zeng Kong Pork - yummy (it's one of their specialty)

Pig Stomach soup

Home made Tofu with Sliced Abalone

The star of the night - not your typical Bittergourd Egg. This is to die for seriously eventhough it doesn't look very appetizing but this is extremely good. OMFG!

French Beans with Dried Shrimps - this is okay-ish and don't have the omph factor.

Direction to get there.

Absolute Thai - Thai Nudle Bar, IPC

There are days when I crave for something hot, sour & spicy especially once a month ( know when?) but don't want to dine in a hot environment. The best place to do it is at a mall. There are aplenty in town and one of the weekend, after shopping at IKEA we made a pitstop at Absolute Thai - Thai Nudle Bar (another one of SEA Cuisine's group of Thai restaurants)

Standard cutlery set

A side view of the kitchen

Tom Yam Koong for 2 person

My bowl of yummy Tom Yam Koong

Steamed White Rice

Assorted stir fried vegetable cooked with oyster sauce. Super bland!

Sliced beef cooked with onions, capsicums and mushrooms. Not a good choice.

Overall, the best among all that we have ordered is the Tom Yam Koong. The rest of the dishes that we've ordered this time around does not meet our standard requirement. But I will still come back for their tom yam to satiate my cravings.

Village Roast Duck, Bangsar Village

Someone once told me that Village Roast Duck located inside Bangsar Village Shopping Centre (BV) has the best roast duck in town. And being the foodie that I am, I've decided to give it a try and judge for myself. So, a couple of Sundays ago, Mr Hubs and I got our ass to BV for our BLD (breakfast, lunch & dinner - all into one meal).

The Menu

Complimentary soup of the day

HK Kailan Oyster Sauce

De-boned roast duck

Barbecued pork (char siu)

The selling point of this place is that they offer de-boning service for the duck for easy eating. But I still prefer the Roast Duck from Restaurant Loong Foong located in Taman Paramount. (my all time favourite!)
