Renoma Cafe Gallery, KL +MOVED+

Another makan session during the weird alternate work day routine. My boss organised a get together dinner for our team and to welcome a new colleague. The venue chosen this time is Renoma Cafe Gallery located along Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL.

There was a total of 9 of us from the initial 5. My colleague reached there early for the happy hours which runs from 12pm - 9pm. I had to work still and arrive last. There was another 2-3 tables occupied for the night. Probably the rest went away for their vacation. And this place is brand new.

The decor is chic with soft lighting. The colour scheme are red, black, brown and white. It's a mixed of old Parisian and modern home furnishing. The most impressive decor was the long corded naked light bulbs fixture hanging above the bar like a chandelier.

This has got to be my favourite decor in the restaurant. It's beautiful and Instagram-able :)

The furnitures are all in red and black, Renoma colours.

I wish that this whole thing is a gigantic bookshelf.

Warm bread is served before the meal. Soft fluffy bun :) The waiter offered different selections of buns but I always have a soft spot for soft roll.

I can't remember the name of this entree coz it took me too long to blog about this. It's basically scallops served in 2 different ways. Very nice.

Burgundy Style Spring (Coq Au Vin)  - Slow braised whole spring chicken with Red Burgundy Wine. Served with Button Mushroom, Smoked Duck, Pearl Onion, Baby Carrot and Potato. The smell of chicken is too strong on this one.

Oriental Rack of Lamb. Tender and juicy.

Ribeye Wagyu - 220gms of goodness. It's served pre-cut. Easy to eat.

L'Artisan - 220gms Grainfed Beef + Foie Gras + 6 inch bun. A lethal and good combo.

French Pigeon & Black Truffle - served with root vegetable, old fashioned white beans and puy lentil stew.

Price here is quite high but then again, think about the ingredients used for each dish. Beautiful ambience and tasteful decor. You will be greeted by Renoma products upon entering the restaurant, it's for sale. And walk in further is where the dining area. At the end of the restaurant is the bar lined with assorted alcohols. Go on upstairs after your meal for some relaxing drink by the bar. Play a game or two of pool and electronic darts.

Acme Bar & Coffee (ABC)

I have been so caught up with work and leisure activities that I've abandoned my beloved food blog. Gone to many places for makan and forgot about it. Whilst I browse through my photo folders only then I recall where I've been.

Acme, Bar & Coffee is located at The Troika, KL. It's a stone throw away from KLCC. It's a beautiful cafe and artfully designed. My first thought was that I wished it's my house and I want to fill the walls with books, curl up on one of the plush sofa and just read the day away.

We had desserts and coffee after the pre-Christmas menu launch dinner. It's too late to write about the Christmas menu because it's over. *slap self on the face*

The signboard.

The upstairs area.

This was where we dined for the Christmas menu launch. Beautiful place.

Light-as-air-pavlova. True to its name.

Cempedak Cake  - according to their website, it depends on availability. Test your luck! I think this is a cake for everyone including those that don't eat jackfruit. The taste is light (not overwhelming, don't worry).

Cappuccino - 2 bears hugging coffee art.

I have not tried their ala carte menu yet. Will be back for more.

Vintage washroom. Isn't this cool? Snapped with my phone therefore the colour is light and not so clear.

Paradise Inn, Sunway Pyramid

We have passed by Paradise Inn a couple of time and never tried it until a couple of weeks back. One cannot really see much of the inside from the outside because of the shape of the restaurant. The ceiling is decorated with chinese lanterns and it's pretty much all the lighting in there. Making it difficult to get snap decent photos.

The cutleries.

Seating arrangements.

This is how the pig stomach soup setup is.

I like this soup very much. Double boiled pig's stomach soup. It's one of those rare occasion where I think it's as good as mom's and grandma's. Loaded with lots of pepper and the way I like it.

Chinese Spinach in Superior Broth - this is normally a safe dish to order and eaten with rice. But it lacks in taste. Probably because of the pork stomach soup that I had prior to eating this.

Minced pork with an egg yolk. I don't like this at all mainly because there are chunks of lard scattered around the minced pork. It becomes yucky after a few bite.

Shrimp paste fried chicken wings. This dish is reasonable.

I will come back here for the soup but not for the food. The price is rather expensive for a restaurant located inside a mall. There are more options anyway. Enough said.

3 Little Pigs & the Big Bad Wolf

We were scratching our heads thinking of the next place to check out for the upcoming December babies birthday celebration. And we wanted something different rather than the usual cafes or restaurants. After all, December has always been a special month for a lot of people. 3 Little Pigs & the Big Bad Wolf came to mind because we love our pork.

The name of the restaurant brings back fond memories of our childhood and it's located at a safe area. To be exact, they took over Country Farm Organics old lot at Bangsar Village. For those who are not sure where, it's the same floor as Nando's, Starbucks, Plan b and the Village Grocer. To get there, you either enter the restaurant from the open space carpark from the Village Grocer or walk into the supermarket, locate the egg section, there's a small opening on the left. But first, you'll have to pass by Hiestand Bakery and you'll see a "No Passing Through" sign.

Why is the restaurant called "3 Little Pigs & the Big Bad Wolf ? This is a restaurant with 2 personality. During the day, it's called 3 Little Pigs and they serve brunch. When nightfalls, it's known as the Big Bad Wolf and they have a more extensive menu with wines.

Tadah.

You will see this if you enter from the Village Grocer.

Wines on display.

One part of the dining area.

Garlic Roast Pork. Yummeh!

Pork Drumsticks. Fried minced pork on a lemongrass.

Caesar Salad.

Ms TEL's The Wolf's Favourite Pasta. Hence the bacon bits.

Mr LSY's Grilled Pork Pesto Pasta. So far, the most handsome looking pasta on camera.

Mr KB's Roast Pork Fried Rice. According to Mr KB, it's a tad oily. Could be the fats from the roast pork plus the oil used for frying the rice. The use japanese rice and it's a good sign because it is tastier. And good control of water used to cook the rice.

Mr Hubs' Green with Envy. Basically this is green curry pork served with rice.

My order of Alien Invasion. Spaghettini served with pork sausages and mushrooms. I ordered this because I like the name of the dish.

Shepherd's Pie. Shared among Ms CAV and Ms FN.

The overall verdict is that the food is good. For the healthy eating people, you might not enjoy it. There are variety of other meat dishes as well but pork champions the menu. After all this is a pork friendly restaurant. If it's not your cup of tea, perhaps you might want to venture elsewhere.

CAFFEine;

Tonight is one of those nights where we manage to have time for dinner together and spare hours for a drink. Had a quick Japanese meal in Setia Walk, Puchong then walked over to Blue Cube to register for iPhone 5. The sales person was super desperate for sales, I can smell it a mile away. I don't blame him coz the place is new and secluded.

Mr Hubs walked over to Beer Factory to say hi to friends while I browse for clothes at a nearby F Block. The clothes are cheap but I did not buy anything coz everything looks big. I don't want to look like I'm wearing people's clothes.

Long story short, we scout for a place for coffee in Setia Walk instead of going to our usual Chilla Cup or Starbucks. We saw a quaint cafe located on the 1st Floor opposite of Yamagoya Ramen. It looks good and we walked over.

I spoke to the good people there to find out whether they are the same as Caffeinees in KL. And the answer is no. This is the one and only outlet for now. After checking out their Facebook page here, they've been opened since September 2012. The cafe is not very visible because of where they are located but in no time, I believe that they'll be booming with customers.

A blackboard as their drink menu. They serve Coffex Coffee.

Coffee bean sack as wall deco.

The counter. Self service. They only accept CASH. Make sure you have money before you come here.

Random wall decor.

I could not remember the character's name. But there are plenty of merchandise on sale for this character ; T-shirts, postcards, button badge etc

Random artsy stuff within the cafe.

 Coffee beans are sold here.

Simple decor. And the furnitures are from Ikea including the seat cushions.

Cappuccino - My order. The froth has flatten by the time I got back to the table. Was busy snapping photos. Single shot of espresso for me coz it was 9-ish at night. The coffee is light and a sweet after taste. I like it on a random night.

Flavoured Iced Latte (Vanilla syrup added) - Mr Hubs' order and he said that it's nice. I take his word for it coz he normally drinks black coffee.

We did not order any dessert because we had a heavy dinner. Will be back again for drinks because I like the environment. And they have a soothing playlist.

Ben's General Food Store, Publika

Last weekend was pretty hectic for us because there was a wedding and a lot of catching up with friends. And on Sunday, we've decided to take things slow and chill. I had to go to Publika for an eye check-up and for new prescriptions of contact lenses. Yes, I am pretty blind.

After my check-up, we wander around B.I.G (Ben's Independent Grocer) because we wanted to buy some chocolates from Royce. Been craving for the good ol' Japanese chocolates.

After that, we started looking for a place for dinner. And we're curious with one particular place that is located within B.I.G and that's Ben's General Food Store. I've seen it at Bangsar Village but never ventured in to give it a try (don't know why...) This time around though, in Publika we gave it a shot and no regrets.

I was too lazy to stand up and get a closer shot.

The condiments and cutleries on display at each table.

 The simple menu.

Seating arrangements.

Jacket potato served with chives, bacon bits and sour cream. I request for no sour cream coz I prefer my food without additional sauce. I love this and when I do crave for potatoes (which is often) I know where to go.

Salami Pizza - tomatoes, mozzarella  and beef pepperoni salami. Yum yum. This comes in one standard size with cutout of 8 slices of pizza. Simple dish and straight to the point.

Beef Pie - I love the pastry because of its buttery goodness. I love its pungent crust and richness. You may choose the type of salad as a side dish. We chose Caesar Salad coz it's safe. And the beef is tender and it literally melt in your mouth. The gravy was a tad salty and it is advisable to eat with the pastry to balance it off.

We both want to come back the following weekend to taste the rest of the menu. Hopefully, it will be kind to our waistline.
